    Stitch Fix Unboxing with Pictures

It’s time for another Stitch Fix unboxing with pictures! Below is a quick breakdown of what I received in my most recent box. Stitch Fix allows you to write a note to your stylist for each fix, these notes are extremely important in getting a successful fix. Unless you are very easy to please you shouldn’t leave them blank.

For the Stitch Fix below I requested warm comfortable clothing that I could wear around the house. I’m not currently looking to expand my wardrobe but my Style Pass was still active so I tried another box. Style Pass membership costs $49 and gives you a year of boxes without the $20 styling fee. In addition, $49 is added as credit to your account that will be applied to your next purchase(s). If you purchase one $49+ item a year, it is worth it!

    December Stitch Fix Review

    Winter Stitch Fix Unboxing

    FORTUNE + IVY
Havana Cowl Neck Curved Hem Knit $38.00
    – This top is super soft and the fabric has a nice little stretch and I particularly like the ribbing on the arms. The color, however, doesn’t do much for me and the top was tight under the armpits so I did return this item.

    STS BLUET
    ayah Skinny Jean $49.00
    – Apparently skinny jeans are out now?! These are not full length jeans, they fall right above my ankle but the fit was nice and the material soft. I can see how they would become a staple in anyone’s wardrobe. My closet, however, already has enough black jeans and pants so I passed on these.

    MARKET & SPRUCE
    Emory Toggle Fleece Jacket $88.00
    – When I first opened my fix I wasn’t a big fan of this jacket. After trying it on I fell in love! The material is very similar to a thick sweatshirt but all the details make it much more interesting. Which allows me to look a bit more put together while still being comfortable. So, this was a keeper!

Stitch Fix Unboxing with Pictures - Market & Spruce Emory Toggle Fleece Jacket

    Athleisure Wear

    GLYDER
Eclipse High Waist Performance Legging $78.00
    – Another day, another pair of leggings. The material on these feel like butter but is strong enough to give a nice smooth fit. My current favorite black leggings have pockets on the side that fit my phone perfectly and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. (IUGA Yoga Pants) As much as I liked the fit on these, I have to send them back.

    THRIVE SOCIETE
    Snap Detail Sweatshirt $54.00
    – The last item in my fix is this baby blue sweatshirt with super cute snap details on the shoulders. In person, this top doesn’t look great with my wide shoulders. While the snap detail is adorable, it also makes me look like a linebacker. So, I did return this item.

    Stitch Fix Style Card

Stitch Fix includes a style card with every fix. Included is a note from your stylist and suggested styling for each item. The card is perforated so you can pop out each style card for easy storage, maybe use an old recipe box.

    Stitch Fix Style Card

    Stitch Fix Receipt

You also receive a receipt in every fix which gives you a breakdown of each item and your “buy all” 25% discount. Your account will NO be charge until you go through check-out on the website or app. If you have a styling fee you will see $20 deducted from your total.

  • Valentine’s Day Heart Activity (Free Printable)

Valentine’s Day Heart Activity (Free Printable)

Valentine's Day Heart Activity Free Printable

We don’t do a big, flowery Valentine’s Day at our house. What we do is make some time to share how much we love each other. Something I have been doing for the past few years is this fun Valentine’s Day heart activity. I cut out hearts, write a reason I love my kids and/or husband on them and tape them to their bedroom door or bathroom mirror at night. I put a new one up each night of the week leading up to Valentine’s Day. When they wake up in the morning throughout the week they are so excited to see what the newest heart says.

My kids love it so much in fact that they keep the hearts up well past Valentine’s Day and even tape them on their bedroom walls. This year I might even make it interactive and hide them around the house for a Valentine’s Day Scavenger Hunt! To share the love with all of our readers, we put together a free printable with hearts you can use for the special people in your lives. Download it below and have a Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️

  • Grove Collaborative Unboxing

I’ve been a member of Grove Collaborative since March of 2019, so you know that I already love their products. Which products, however, do I get on a regular basis and why do I like them so much? To help answer this question I did a Grove Collaborative Unboxing with pictures of my latest box.

The box below doesn’t have all of my favorites but I’ll be sure to post another unboxing so that I can comment on all of them.

This post contains affiliate links– thank you for supporting us. Get a free Grove Collaborative Starter gift set by using our affiliate link: HERE.

    What’s in the box

    Grove Collaborative Unboxing All-Purpose cleaner

    Cleaning Concentrates

This product was the reason I searched out Grove Collaborative in the first place. I was looking for a cleaning concentrate and reusable bottle. My favorite cleaner at the time was by Method, but the bottle wasn’t made from # 2 plastic, which is the only plastic recyclable in Maine. Grove sells GLASS spray bottles and cleaning concentrates in all-purpose, glass, shower, and floor. My favorite is the all-purpose but I also find the glass cleaner works well. The concentrates come in mini glass bottles and all you need to do is add water.

    Soap Refills

Grove Collaborative High Performance Dish Soap
One of my first Grove purchases was their glass hand & dish soap dispensers, you can see them in the picture on the right. Not only are these glass bottles gorgeous they are also easy to refill and save plastic bottles from going into a landfill. The dish soap ($6) and hand soap ($6) are reasonably priced and last a long time. They offer 3 scents, Free & Clear, Lavender & Thyme, and Lemon Eucalyptus & Mint, all of which I have tried and love. The plastic bags are recyclable and they are now offering refills in aluminum.

In this order, I also grabbed a refill of Method Hand Soap in Waterfall. My children prefer a stronger scent in for their hand soap so I use this one in their bathroom. I have a Grove glass soap dispenser in all 4 of our bathrooms and one in the kitchen.

The last refill item that I purchased was the Pure Power Liquid Laundry Detergent in Lavender & Rosemary. I use this in our auto-dosing glass laundry detergent dispenser, again saving on plastic. I’ve tried several different of their detergents including the cold wash and standard detergent but I like the pure power the best. It cleans my kid’s clothes really well and they can be pretty bad.

    New Favorite Kitchen Towels

Grove Collaborative Kitchen Towel, Set of 2
These 18 inches x 28 inches 100% cotton kitchen towels are my absolute favorite, I now have 4 sets. They are very thick high-quality cotton, only $9.95 and perfect for drying hands and dishes. So far, I haven’t had any issues with fading and they maintain their shape.

    Sustainable Napkins and More

I order these sustainable napkins every month, they are only $2.95 for 200 and are 100% Bamboo. They aren’t extremely thick, they remind me of an everyday napkin you get at the grocery store in bulk but they are perfect for everyday.

The last couple of items are a Bamboo Prep Board that I received as a free gift and a bottle of Oxyfresh Pet Water Additive. Grove Collaborative offers items for cats & dogs and we have a new Westie puppy. I’ve read a lot of good things about this water additive so we are trying it out.

  • Valentine’s Day Hot Cocoa Bombs

    Valentine’s Day Hot Cocoa Bombs

    Valentine's Day Hot Cocoa Bombs

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! While we don’t celebrate with anything big and showy, I do try to do a little something fun. This year calls for Homemade Valentine’s Day Hot Cocoa Bombs! Easy to make and fun to decorate, hot cocoa bombs make great homemade gifts or a fun activity for kids and adults alike. A warm sip of delicious hot cocoa in a heart shaped mug is just the kind of Valentine’s Day I am hoping for.

This post contains affiliate links– thank you for supporting us.

    Ingredients

    Instructions

To make these hot cocoa bombs Valentine’s Day themed, I used white chocolate, red food coloring and heart sprinkles.

    1. Melt the white chocolate (white chocolate chips, candy melts, etc.). Put in a microwave safe dish and heat for 30 seconds at a time stirring between each heating. Do not overheat!
    2. Once melted, if you want to keep them white, spread the melted white chocolate up the sides of your mold.
    3. If you want to make them marbled with red and pink like in the picture below, put some red food coloring into the melted white chocolate and stir just a little bit so you see both white and red streaks. Then spread the mixture up the sides of the mold. Try not to keep smoothing and spreading because the more you mess with it, the more it will mix into a plain pink and you will lose the marble effect.
    4. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until the white chocolate has hardened and gently pop them out of the mold.
    5. Fill one half of your bomb with hot cocoa mix, sprinkles, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips and whatever you would like to include.
    6. Once the bottom half is filled, melt the edges of the top half just enough so there is some softened chocolate and stick it onto the bottom closing the bomb. (To melt the edges, I microwaved a plate until warm and placed the top-half of my bomb on the plate, edge side down. The warmth from the plate was enough to slowly melt the edges of the half circle.) Smooth any melted chocolate around the seam to make a better seal.
    7. Finally, it’s time to decorate! I used some of the melted chocolate to stick heart sprinkles to the outside of my hot cocoa bombs. You could also LIGHTLY drizzle melted chocolate over them or even stick a candy heart on the top. Refrigerate for a few minutes to harden the edges and decorations before using or gifting!

  • Hungryroot Honest Review

    Hungryroot Honest Review

I had been interested in trying a meal plan delivery service for a very long time now. I did a lot of research and finally decided to try out Hungryroot after reading about their philosophy which focuses on curating foods that are nutritious, easy to prepare, and of course delicious. Honestly, the main reason I hadn’t tried it before now is that I found their online interface and pricing system to be a bit confusing. I wasn’t sure really how much food I would be getting for my money and how much flexibility they offer for a semi-picky eater like me. Once we all started quarantining and my children were doing remote-learning at home, I just decided to dive in and write about my experience here so all of you out there in internetland can hopefully make a more informed decision. Read on to find my Hungryroot honest review.

    Hungryroot Honest Review

    How it works:

This was the part that was the most confusing to me, I will try to keep it simple. You pay a weekly fee for a certain amount of “credits” that can be used on meals and other items from the Hungryroot online store. You need to sign up for one of their plans before you get to see all of the food and meals available to you. Meals end up being around $10 a serving. $99 gets you roughly 3 meals with 2 servings each and about 5-8 extra grocery items.

Once you are signed up, you can edit almost EVERYTHING you just signed up for. You can add meals, take meals out, add more snacks to your plan, and so on. You are given a curated meal list that is completely editable. For example, I signed up for 3 recipes with 2 servings each, 5-7 snack servings, and 4-6 sweet servings a week. Remember, we are talking about servings, so a larger snack bag with multiple servings counts for more servings. If you are interested in trying Hungryroot for your family, you would add more servings of the same meal to your shipment.

When I finished deciding how many meals I wanted I looked at my scheduled delivery and changed a lot. I was given a salmon meal and I do not like fish, so I was able to easily remove it from my shipment and add a different meal. In addition, I was given Medjool Dates which I am not a fan of so I was able to remove those and choose a different snack. The only issue with changing meals/snacks is that you need to stay within your “credit” limit I was referring to. Different items cost different amounts of credits, so you may end up having to pay a little extra if you can’t make it even with your credit limit.

    What you get:

Below is what I got in my first box. This is everything I received for the $99 meal plan. Some items are pre-cooked and only need reheating while others are precut and portioned so you simply put them on a baking sheet and bake.

Grain Bowl with Chicken and Green Chile Sauce

This meal was great. I really enjoyed the Green Chile sauce and it was quick and easy to prepare. The zucchini was pre-cut and ready to cook as were the chicken breasts. They just needed reheating. This meal was SUPER fast and easy to prepare, it took about 10 minutes total which was a huge win in my book. I would rate this meal a 9/10. I could have used a little variety in the vegetables.

Spinach Feta Turkey Burgers with Avocado Crema

This was another great meal. The Turkey Patties with Feta and Spinach were flavorful and again pre-cooked so all I needed to do was heat them up. I liked the multi-grain sandwich buns and since they came in a pack of 8, I was able to use them for lunches later in the week. The Avocado Crema sauce was smooth and creamy. I would rate this meal an 8/10, a point was deducted because this meal did not come with any side dish or veggie. I also added a slice of my own cheese and some fried jalapeños to this burger.

Ravioli with Root Vegetables and Kale Pesto

This was my least favorite meal of the week. The ravioli was dairy free and bland as was the Kale Pesto Sauce. I am not a huge fan of kale, so the flavor just wasn’t there for me on this sauce. The Root Vegetables were great and included veggies I wouldn’t normally buy, like rutabaga and turnips, so that was a plus! I would rate this meal a 4/10. I am a real pasta fan and this just didn’t live up.

    Hungryroot Honest Review

    Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough

When I signed up for the plan, I used a coupon code to get their Almond Chickpea Cookie Dough for free with each shipment. This was one of the main reasons I chose to sign up when I did. You can eat this cookie dough raw if that is something you are into, I chose to bake them. I made these for my kids and didn’t tell them what they were made of. They gobbled them right up. I also enjoyed them but could tell they are different than regular chocolate chip cookies, for a healthy version they are very good. They have a softer texture than standard cookies and were a winner for everyone in my family. I would rate these cookies a 9/10!

    Other items in my box:

    • Abe’s Blueberry Muffins – 10/10 – My kids LOVED theses muffins, they were all eaten the day they were delivered.
    • Pumfu Pumpkin Tofu – 8/10 – I love tofu and was excited to try this. I thought it was very good, but much smaller than a standard tofu package. It had a slightly nutty flavor and was a little firmer than standard firm tofu.
    • Cedar’s Garlic Hummus Snack Pack – 10/10 – If you like hummus, you’ll like this convenient snack pack!
    • Basil Zucchini White Bean Salad – 9/10 – Very good, very flavorful makes a nice side dish for lunch.
    • Garlicky Herb Chickpea Duo – 9/10 – Again, very good, very flavorful!
    • Epic Wagyu Beef Steak Strip – 10/10 – Grass-fed beef with great flavor, and it makes a great quick snack.
    • Bobo’s Maple Pecan Oat Bar – 3/10 – Not great, overpowering scent. No one in my house could finish this bar.

    Overall Review:

I really enjoyed Hungryroot. Most of the meals were great and super healthy. I would absolutely eat everything again except for the ravioli. The meals were all fast to prepare and needed minimal prep. Hungryroot also introduced me to some new pre-packed food brands that I enjoyed and will purchase in the future.

I would recommend Hungryroot for couples or small families who are low on time and are looking for healthier meals. However, I don’t think it is very practical for larger families with kids that eat large portions. The portion sizes were just right for my husband and I, but my growing teenage nephews would need multiple side dishes/multiple portions. Additionally, my younger, slightly picky eater kids, didn’t eat any of the meals. I would say, if this sounds somewhat interesting or helpful to you, give it a try! You can always cancel, even after just one shipment!

    Pros:

-Meals are super easy to prepare
-Meals are pre-planned and produce is fresh
-Food is very healthy and well portioned

    Cons:

-Cost – on the more expensive side
-Not super family friendly, my kids weren’t fans of some meals
    -Limited meal options

Elf on the Shelf Quarantine Printable

Our Elf on the Shelf quarantine printable makes it super easy to put your elf in quarantine! We have FREE printables available in Classic or Woodland style. Included in each is a mini elf face mask and mini elf hand sanitizer. This is a great way to commemorate this historic year while at the same time freeing yourself from moving your Elf on the Shelf for 2 weeks! Win-win! See instructions below.

    Supplies:

Elf on the Shelf – Buy at Target (larger size here)
    Brown or white paper bag
    Tape or Glue
    Quarantine Printable
    Scissors
Plastic Wrap or piece of clear plastic

    Instructions:

Cut a square out of the front of your paper bag the height of your elf’s head when he/she is sitting in the bag. Tape a piece of plastic wrap to the inside to make the window.

Save the Elf on the Shelf Quarantine Printable of your choice to your computer and print. Cut out each object.

Write the name of your elf on the appropriate lines along with the date they will be getting out of quarantine.

Tape the four small rectangle or vine “mask ties” to the back of the mask. Wrap it around your elf’s head and tape to the back of the head. Tape or place the hand sanitizer to/in the hand of your elf and place the elf in the bag, facing outward through the window.

Finally, tape the sign to the front of the bag and use a paperclip, clothespin or even tape the top closed. Then tape the Quarantine sign on the top of the bag.
