Humblemaker generously sent us a gorgeous highball glass and 3 packs of their new cold brew shots; one of each variety. Each package ($30) contains 8 shots which is just about the right number to get you through the week – one a day and one emergency shot for long work days.

About Humblemaker

“Humblemaker cold brews are made using only the highest quality, responsibly sourced, fresh roasted organic coffees. Their proprietary process is cold from start to finish – closely regulating brew temperature and brew time to ensure ideal extraction and flavor. Their premium ingredients and cut-no-corners-attitude delivers the finest quality finished product possible.” This is directly from their website because, hey, you can’t beat this description!

Our Review

Each shot offers a little something extra like Vitamin C or Ginseng. We love the 115mg of coffee in each shot but also the extra wellness boost! They are perfect for coffee on the go or to keep at your desk for a mid-day boost. This summer we brought them camping, some folks drank their shots straight and other added theirs to some cool milk.

note: these shots do need to be kept refrigerated so they stayed in the cooler at camp

Cold Brew Coffee Shots – 3 Options

1) La Fonda – “An antioxidant rich, Mexican Coffee cold brew shot with pure cinnamon and cacao that harness all the immune boosting power of green tea: active polyphenols, Vitamin C and selenium”

Taste test: The cinnamon and cacao really make this shot fantastic, the flavor isn’t overpowering and the coffee is smooth. Who doesn’t need an extra immune boost these days? I’ve actually mixed this with the Boomtowne shot for the ultimate wellness shot.

2) Black Sea – “This cognitive health Turkish Coffee cold brew shot is brewed with real cardamom and clove packed with L-Theanine and Ginseng, both known to promote memory and reaction time.”

Taste test: This was my least favorite of the three, the coffee is still fine but I’m extremely opposed to cloves. The clove notes seemed very strong to me. If cardamom and clove peak your interest then you will enjoy this one, it is particularly good for the fall.

3) Boomtowne – “An ultra smooth Simply Black triple strength cold brew shot with liquid multivitamin.”

Taste test: Yes, this is the winner for me! A wicked smooth no-frills black coffee shot with a multivitamin to boot.

Conclusion

There are so many pros – flavor, taste and convenience. The wellness aspect of these shots is an absolute stand out. The La Fonda with extra immunity boost offers the ultimate combo. While these shots won’t replace my regular coffee everyday they will become a regular purchase. Having some on hand for those extra busy days has been a lifesaver.

The only con for me is the price. $30 for an 8-pack of shots seems a little steep, that is $3.75 each. This is similar to a Starbucks Coffee, but much more than brewed coffee at home. The good news is you are getting a multivitamin or an immunity boost in addition to your caffeine fix. You also won’t be tempted to get that pastry as you order your mid-day coffee. 😉

The Fast Coffee Frappé Recipe
- 1 cup of Ice
- 1/2 cup of Half & Half
- 1 tablespoon of Agave (or sweetener of choice)
- 1 Humblemaker Cold Brew Coffee Shot*
- whipped cream (optional)
Add ice, half & half, agave and cold brew shot into your blender and blend until combined. Note: You can add more ice if you like a thicker Frappe or more half & half if you prefer a thinner Frappe. Pour in glass and top with whipped cream. Drink before it melts!

*You can also use an espresso shot or make a concentrate with instant coffee

Tips:

Slap Ya Mama Seasoning Review
My sister-in-law has an obsession that is contagious. During our last visit she introduced me to Slap Ya Mama by suggesting I add a little to my eggs. “I put it on everything, it’s amazing!”, she said. She wasn’t wrong! Fast forward 2 months and I’m using it everyday and have signed-up for Subscribe & Save delivery on Amazon. So we at TINA have decided to share her discovery with you! Read on for our Slap Ya Mama Seasoning Review and Popcorn Recipe.

The best thing about Slap Ya Mama, is that my 9 year old daughter became obsessed with it too! She typically doesn’t like spicy food but she loves this seasoning. The absolute miracle is that she is now eating foods she doesn’t normally like such as scrambled eggs, rice and veggies. Yes veggies, and she will eat larger portions of said veggies!

Slap Your Mama comes in 4 different flavors, Original Blend, Hot Cajun Blend, White Pepper Blend and an all natural Low Sodium Blend. We have been using the Original Blend but have the Hot Cajun on order. As I mentioned before, my younger daughter uses the Original so if you really like spicy food I would go straight to the Hot Cajun. The Original can get spicy if you add enough but then it gets a little too salty for my taste.

We truly use this spice blend on everything! Here are some of our favorite ways to use it:
- Sprinkled on roasted veggies
- As a dry-rub on grilled chicken
- As a seasoning for popcorn
- Sprinkled on fried or scrambled eggs
- We’ve even put it on pizza!

Our favorite way to use Slap Ya Mama is to add it to freshly popped popcorn!

Perfectly Seasoned Slap Ya Mama Popcorn:

2-3 Tbsp Olive Oil or Coconut Oil
1/2 Cup Popcorn Kernels
Slap Ya Mama – to taste

Add olive oil to the bottom of a large pot and turn heat to med-high. Add popcorn kernels and cover pot. Shake pot with lid on as the oil and popcorn heat. Continue to shake pot occasionally as the popcorn starts to pop. Keep the pot on the heat until the popping slows down. Pour directly into large bowl and season generously with Slap Ya Mama.

Eco-Friendly Straws

I love using straws and I know this is an issue that has circulated in the last few years as a source of plastics in our oceans. I don’t know if it is because my teeth are so sensitive, or if my favorite Coke Zero just tastes better through a straw, but I knew I had to find an alternative. So after a few tries I found these silicone straws.

Pros:
- They are large enough to use for smoothies. I know this seems like not a big deal, but I do make smoothies regularly and wanted something that would work well.
- They are soft enough that I can press my teeth on them with hurting them. I tried metal straws and just didn’t like how hard they were against my teeth.
- And the best pro for me – I can just throw them in the dishwasher when I’m done! I HATE hand washing dishes so this was a big selling point for me. It’s a win-win-win in my book!

Note: This particular set has 3 different sized straws, some are very short and work well in my stemless wine glasses. You might want to choose their set with just the tall straws if you will be using them mainly for smoothies.

Eco-Friendly Reusable Snack Bags

Next on our list is a replacement for single use snack/sandwich bags. I already stopped using single use plastic for my kids’ lunches, but sometimes still needed something other than a food storage container for snacks and other items. So after some trial and error with different types and materials I bought and love these resealable PEVA bags.

Pros:
- They seal tightly so I can pack snacks for the kids on Sunday and they stay fresh throughout the week. This was an issue I had with cloth bags as they are not air-tight so food would get stale if left in them for longer than a day.
- Because they seal tightly and are made of PEVA, they are waterproof. I can pack washed fruit without worrying about the leaking.
- My kids can use them easily. I had some other PEVA bags with different closures that my kids just couldn’t get to open, they were too tight. My kids have no problems with these, maybe once in a while I have to help them close the bag all the way but that’s it.
Con:
- They are not dishwasher safe. Whomp whomp. At least that’s what the site says, I haven’t tried it. I end up hand washing them and putting them on an overturned glass to dry the inside completely before putting them away.

Eco-Friendly Water Bottles

A sturdy water bottle is always by our side, and we have banished single use plastic water bottles completely. Nanette’s absolute favorite is the double-wall vacuum insulated HydroFlask! It keeps your cold drinks cold and hot drinks piping hot.

Pros:
- These water bottles are super high quality and will last a long time. They can really take a beating, we have one that has taken more than a few tumbles and keeps on going.
- Put a few ice cubes in your water and you will have a refreshing drink a summer long. I even keep one next to my bedside and have cold water in the morning.
- They have all different shapes and sizes including a kid sized water bottle, 64oz. growlers, wine and beer tumblers and more.
Con:
- They are not dishwasher safe either. Sometimes they stack-up on the side of our sink even though they can be easily washed by hand.

Carolyn’s favorite reusable water bottles are the Yeti brand water bottles. Why, you ask? If you couldn’t guess it’s because they have great insulation to keep your drinks warm or cold and are made from stainless steel for long-term use, but mainly it’s because both the lid and the bottle are…wait for it….DISHWASHER SAFE! They also make great gifts.

Pros:
- All the pros are the same as the HydroFlask! Both are great water bottle and travel mug choices and come in lots of fun colors!
Cons:
- Really none that I could think of, except maybe the price. I get mine at Dick’s Sporting Goods when they have a sale!

Eco-Friendly Toys

One category you don’t always think of when listing eco-friendly products for home is toys! One of our top toy brands is Green Toys who make toys using environmental friendly materials including 100% recycled plastic. They contain no BPA, phthalates or PVC. The packaging is even made with recyclable materials and printed with soy inks!

Pros:
- Made from recycled milk jugs!!

- These toys are mostly for younger children. We would love to see them create a line for older kids.

Cleaning Supplies

Obviously, cleaning is on everyone’s to-do list, mine included. For laundry, I switched to wool dryer balls when I had my first child and never looked back. Some people claim they provide shortened dryer time and less static, but I have not found that to be the case. Nevertheless, I will never go back to buying dryer sheets!

Pros:
- Saves money in the long run, you’ll never have to buy dryer sheets again!
- Gently softens clothes as they dry, similar to dryer sheets.
- All natural, you aren’t covering your clothes in chemicals!
- You can add natural essential oils to give your clothes a gentle scent such as lavender for your sheets.
Cons:
- Can be loud in the dryer
- Doesn’t really help with static issues

Top 3 Grove Collaborative Items
While on lock down it is important to keep your hands, home, and laundry clean! Enter Grove Collaborative, my new obsession! They only sell products that are non-toxic, effective, sustainable, and cruelty-free. I’ve been ordering from them since March of 2019 and have been extremely happy. Here are my Top 3 Grove Collaborative items!

1) All-Purpose Cleaner with Glass Spray Bottle

This product was the reason I searched out Gove Collaborative in the first place. I was looking for a cleaning concentrate and reusable bottle. My favorite cleaner at the time was by Method, but the bottle wasn’t made from # 2 plastic, which is the only plastic recyclable in Maine. Grove sells GLASS spray bottles and cleaning concentrates in all-purpose, glass, shower and floor. My favorite is the all-purpose but I also find the glass cleaner to work well. The concentrate comes in a very small plastic tube and is recyclable (# 2), all you need to do is add water.

3) Hand & Dish Soap with Dispenser

Not only are these glass bottles gorgeous they are also easy to refill. I love the silicone sleeve for the dish soap and stoneware tray that catches drips. Refills for both the dish soap ($6) and hand soap ($6) are reasonably priced and last a long time. They offer 3 scents, Free & Clear, Lavender & Thyme, and Lemon Eucalyptus & Mint, all of which I have tried and love. My children, however, aren’t a big fan of the last two on that list so I’ve purchased Method refills in Grapefruit for them. Grove also sells Method and Mrs. Meyer’s products.

3) Laundry Detergent with Dispenser

This is a new item for me. Again, we are trying to cut back on plastics which means my addiction to Mrs. Meyer’s Lemon Verbena Laundry Detergent needed to be curbed. Too many bottles. First of all, this dispenser is amazing, it is auto-dosing so you don’t use too much detergent. In addition, the cold water detergent does a great job at getting my clothes clean.
